The Climber Conservation Corps

American Alpine Club Events - The Climber Conservation Corps

The American Alpine Club’s work to restore heavily eroded climber trails in Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park, through support from Patagonia Inc., prompted the creation of the Climber Conservation Corps. Inspired by the Civilian Conservation Corps (which from 1933-1942 worked tirelessly to revitalize America’s iconic landscapes and build recreational infrastructure), the Climber Conservation Corps will enable AAC members to work together to improve climber trails and climbing area infrastructure coast to coast.

Mark Loseth, part of the Patagonia trail crew, will be on the front lines leading the work effort. The work is in the planning stages and will begin in earnest in 2011.

Who better to carry out this work than the American Alpine Club? For we are a community of climbers who believe in protecting the places we climb. This is our chance to uphold the legacy of great climber conservationists like John Muir, David Brower, Doug Tompkins, and Yvon Chouinard.
