Three AAC members were among the prize winners at the 14th annual Banff Mountain Book Festival. American Alpine Journal editor John Harlin III received the award for Best Book–Mountaineering History for his Eiger Obsession: Facing the Mountain that Killed my Father. Glen Denny was honored for his photo book Yosemite in the Sixties with the prize for Best Book—Mountain Image. And AAC honorary member Glen Boles received the Canadian Rockies Award for his beautiful book Glen Boles: My Mountain Album.
Standing out among the crowd at the Banff festivals were plenty of AAC members, including Dick Dorworth, who gave a reading from his new book Night Driving: Invention of the Wheel & Other Blues. Mark Jenkins, who also has a new book—A Man’s Life: Dispatches from Dangerous Places—moderated a panel on women and climbing. And Michael Brown, president of Serac Adventure Films, was honored with the grand prize from the International Alliance for Mountain Film, an annual award for one person who has made a significant contribution to the genre. Brown is the first North American and the youngest person to receive this honor.
