Sierra Nevada Section members and some new friends gathered on August 25th and 26th for the summer's second Donner Summit Climb-munity. Hot weather had the group away from camp and climbing early Saturday morning. Eventually, some made their way to Donner Lake for a cooling dip around midday, followed by more cragging late in the afternoon.
More folks showed up for Saturday evening's barbeque and party. They included, most notably, AAC Conservation Committee Chair Ellen Lapham and AAC/SNS member Peter Green, a research engineer with the John Muir Institute of the Environment at the University of California Davis and a former K2 partner of AAC Operations Director Charley Mace. With the red wine flowing, the group's conversation drifted among alpinism and climate change, air quality and Eastern Sierra hot springs. Sunday was another hot one, and some folks opted for nearby peak bagging on the Sierra Crest, while others went back to the crags.
The Sierra Nevada Section's next event is the Robbins Pinecrest Climb-In, near Sonora Pass, on September 15 and 16. Contact David Riggs to RSVP.
