Skram Media, publisher of AAC Industry Partners Climbing and Urban Climber magazines, announced plans to purchase enough carbon offsets to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of their business. In addition to offsetting emissions from its offices, the publisher is also compensating for CO2 emissions created from the printing and distribution of the magazines themselves.
Skram will work with Carbonfund.org to neutralize its carbon footprint through reforestation projects. Skram already prints both magazines on 100 percent recycled paper.
"Climbing and Urban Climber have been printed on recycled paper for almost a year now," said Publisher Mark Crowther. "This year, in addition to expanding our coverage of environment-related issues, we wanted to make the magazines themselves more accountable."
"Seeing the leadership on this issue coming from the publishing side of the outdoor industry is a blue-sky day," said Michael Stewart, partnerships manager for Carbonfund.org. "With their dual-track operation of using recycled paper and compensating for the magazines' direct CO2 footprint, Skram Media has taken to heart our motto: "Reduce what you can, offset what you can't."
