Montana is America’s unsung climbing paradise. From the ice mecca of Hyalite Canyon to the countless miles of granite tucked away in the many ranges that sweep across the state, it’s not hard to find crags of all shapes and sizes here. Montana’s members live among the rarely seen, beautiful and pristine.

Montana Section Co-Chairs
Kevin Brumbach. Kevin was lucky enough to grow up in Southern Idaho where he spent most of his free time exploring the Sawtooth Mountain Range, just a couple hours north. While attending Colorado College, Kevin not only honed his skills in academia but found greater solace alpine climbing throughout the Rocky Mountains. This passion found him moving to Bozeman, MT, which he has called home for the past four years. Now back in school at Montana State University working toward attending a program in Nursing, Kevin continues exploring the alpine environment, sharing his knowledge and experience with high school students as a lead volunteer instructor for the Junior Mountaineering Team in Bozeman. Kevin looks forward to bringing together the community of AAC climbers that abound in Montana. Hosting monthly socials, slideshows, and climbing events will help new and old members alike come together and share the joy the mountains give to us all.
Emily Stifler. When Emily was 15, she climbed the rock wall at the old Climb High store in South Burlington, Vermont. Next was the Treasure Mountain Chimneys at 13,000’, above Marble, Colorado. Ever since, she’s held alpine rock in the highest esteem. Emily learned to shove her mitts in cracks at Turkey Rocks while earning an English and creative writing degree from Colorado College. Since then, she has climbed adventurous routes around North America. Living in Bozeman, she’s still trying to get comfortable climbing ice and is frequently thwarted by a skiing addiction. Thanks to support from AAC grants, Emily has taken rock climbing expeditions to the great swamps of Southwest Alaska, and to the Cirque of the Unclimbables in Canada’s Northwest Territories. Working as managing editor of The Big Sky Weekly, Mountain Outlaw and Explorebigsky.com, she’s fired up on local adventure and on building a vibrant AAC community in Montana.
