Frequently Ask Questions
Is there a way to stay for free?
Absolutely! We run Work Week every year in June to get the GTCR prepped and ready to go for the season. If you volunteer at least one day, you'll get to stay for the entire week. And if you volunteer for the entire week, you'll get to stay for free through all of June. For more information, click here.
What are the "Rustic Bunkhouse Accommodations" like?
The Climbers' Ranch offers primitive, co-ed dormitory-style lodging in a communal setting. Guests are housed in open, one room cabins with other climbers, sleeping on wooden bunks wide enough to accommodate one sleeping bag and gear, or two-sleeping bags snugly. All guests share a men's and women's bathhouse offering showers, sinks and toilets. A communal cook shelter is provided where guests can setup their cooking stoves and enjoy the fellowship of the climbing community.
Can I rent a cabin?
No. The Climbers' Ranch rents bunks in a dormitory-type setting.
Can you guarantee my group will be housed together?
No. The Climbers' Ranch is setup to provide lodging to climbers going into and coming out of the backcountry. Bunks are filled as they come available. Parties larger than two will most likely be housed in more than one cabin though we will always pair two members of a group together so
that no one is in a cabin by themselves.
How many other climbers will be in the cabin with me?
Our cabins vary in size from 4 to 6 to 8 bunks. It is not possible to request a particular cabin or cabin size since bunks are filled as they come available.
What about children?
The Climbers' Ranch is open to everyone. Because cabins are one-room, open spaces and climbers may be leaving for climbs in the middle of the night (an "alpine start"), young children – and their parents – may have difficulty sleeping. That said, children are welcome and encouraged to experience the rustic accommodations of the Climbers' Ranch.
What if I share a bunk with my spouse or child?
The Climbers' Ranch charges very low rates and the rates are applied per person for adults and children regardless of bunk sharing. Guests are more than welcome to share bunks.
Can I camp in my vehicle or tent and use the facilities?
No. The Climbers' Ranch contract with the park prohibits vehicle or tent camping on Ranch property. There are several excellent campgrounds nearby. We do sell showers to campers.
Is there a guest kitchen?
No. Guests must bring their own cook stove for use at the cook shelter. The Climbers' Ranch provides coolers free of charge and sells ice for keeping food items cool.
Is internet access available?
Yes, if you bring your own computer. Our library is setup with WiFi and several excellent websites exist offering weather and other park information.
Are there any guide services in the area?
Absoutely. Both Exum Mountain Guides and Jackson Hole Mountain Guides offer AAC members 10-15% discounts for any day climbs in the area.
Should I bring my guitar?
Yes!
