Make Your Donation to the Climbers’ Ranch Worth Even More! · August 30, 2012

This year the Climbers’ Ranch is again participating in the matching grants program of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. Funds raised through Old Bill’s Fun Run to the account of the Climbers’ Ranch benefit from a Foundation match of approximately 50%. So your $100 donation turns into $150 with the support of the Jackson Hole Community Foundation. Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 to take full advantage of this matching gift opportunity. Help us get there with your gift today.

The deadline for donations this year is September 14, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Donations can be made on-line by following the simple instructions on the Old Bill’s Fun Run page of the website of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole: http://www.cfjacksonhole.org/old-bills-fun-run/donate-through-old-bills/ Simply select “Grand Teton Climbers’ Ranch” from the drop-down box. If you wish to donate by check you may also download and print a donor form and mail your check to the address on the form. All donations are tax deductible.

Conservation News from the Western Region · August 21, 2012

The Arizona Section of the American Alpine Club along with Flagstaff Climbing put in an epic day of trail work at Le Petit Verdon (the Pit) outside of Flagstaff, Arizona.  Despite the work taking 3 hours longer than planned and despite the rain and hail and drastic shifts in temperature, everyone stuck it out and did some great work with the US Forest Service to help maintain this popular crag.  All hats go off to those individuals who gave their Saturday morning to give back to the climbing community.  Read the rest on Inclined…

Cory Richards Thanks Club for Rowell Award · August 13, 2012

Cory Richards wrote to us about his acceptance of the Rowell AwardThe Rowell Award—For The Art of Adventure honors an adventurer whose artistic passion illuminates the wild places of the world, and whose accomplishments significantly benefit both the environment and the people who inhabit these lands and regions. It was established to celebrate the accomplishments of famed adventurers and photographers Galen and Barbara Rowell who died in a plane crash in 2002.

The award will be officially presented at the Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride in late May, 2012. The American Alpine Club is pleased to award Cory with this year’s $15,000 prize.

Growing up, the primary family library was comprised almost entirely of mountain literature and hard-cover books of the wild places of our planet. I remember the spines growing weary with age and the pages becoming dully littered with fingerprints, ever-growing little hands flipping through the pages of dreams manifested. Read the rest…

Sprucing Up the Index Wall · August 9, 2012

Eddie Espinosa, our Northwest Regional Coordinator, sent us this article from the Everett, Washington Herald:

“INDEX — Rock climbers have put up the money to save one of their favorite local haunts. Now they’re investing sweat equity. During the final weekend of July, dozens of volunteers arrived at Index Lower Town Wall to man bucket brigades. They’ve been busy building trails, grading the parking lot and planning to install a permanent bathroom…”
