    The AAC is excited to announce our brand new trailer to help share the message and heartbeat of the AAC with the climbing community. Many thanks to Scott Neel for creating the video, with help from climbers Alex Honnold, Beth Rodden, Conrad Anker, Dave Graham, Heidi Wirtz, Kevin Jorgeson, Lynn Hill, Naomi Guy, Pete Takeda, Phil Powers, Renan Ozturk, and Timmy O'Neill.

  • AAC Sunburn Breakfast A Hit In Ouray

    It is usually very hard to get people up by nine a.m. on a Sunday, especially after a wild party. To my surprise, though, I had to turn people away from our 4th Annual AAC Sunburn Breakfast, part of the 2010 Ouray Ice Festival. This year, we were pleased to host Ines Papert. Ines wowed the crowd with her pictures and stories about rock climbing and what motivates her to keep pushing her limits. If there is ever a reason to get up early on a Sunday morning, it is the AAC Sunburn Breakfast that never disappoints.

  • Grant Deadline Approaching - Jan. 1!

    If you have been considering applying for grant funding from the AAC, please do not delay! The deadline for two major climbing grants, the Lyman-Spitzer Cutting Edge Award and the McNeill-Nott Award, is approaching quickly: all applications are due on or before January 1, 2010. This is a change from past years; both grants had previous application dates of March 1.

  • Exit Strategies Conference Set For July 2010

    The AAC and a select group of nonprofits and government agencies are teaming up to host an international conference on managing human waste in wilderness settings. The three-day “Exit Strategies” meeting will be held at the American Mountaineering Center and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado next summer: July 30 to August 1.

    The Exit Strategies conference will bring together up to 100 land managers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and students to discuss strategies for dealing effectively with human waste, including existing solutions and innovative proposals alike. (Jed) Williamson of Hanover, New Hampshire, was the first recipient of the Charles (Reb) Gregg Award on October 16, 2009 in recognition of his contributions to the development of incident review methods and risk management audit process, designing preventive approaches for reducing accidents, reviewing programs, and investigating incidents in-depth for over 40 years.   • Craggin Classic Invades The Wasatch

    More than 200 climbers from over 13 different countries flocked to Salt Lake City this past weekend to celebrate climbing at the AAC's 2nd Annual Craggin' Classic. With extraordinary help from the Salt Lake Climber's Alliance and AAC industry partners, the rotating annual event dove into the deep community of Wasatch climbing. Locals climbed next to pros, Italian climbers swapped beta with climbers from Japan, and young guns gave tips to climbers from the 60's (on routes those climbers put up themselves in the 60's!).

  • AAC Mourns The Loss Of NY Member Clif Maloney

    On September 25, the AAC lost longtime New York section member Clif Maloney on Cho Oyu. According to Phil Erard, chair of the New York Section, "Clif was a  close member of the NY Section family, so this hits everyone of us deeply and personally, particularly after the elation we all felt on his successful summit on Thursday."

  • Application Deadline For Two AAC Grants Pushed Forward

    The application deadline for two of the AAC's major grant programs has been moved two months earlier, to ensure that grant winners can be notified before their expeditions are scheduled to depart in the spring. The new application deadline for the Lyman Spitzer Cutting-Edge Awards and the McNeill-Nott Awards is January 1 (Winners will be notified by March 1).
